Corvette FAIL: pedestrian polo

During the exodus of a Cars and Coffee meet, a silver C6 Corvette decided to show off by failing at a burnout and nearly taking out a group of pedestrians after jumping the curb. Jumping the curb in a car like this is going to cause some major damage! Beyond damage to the car, I'm sure there was also some damage to the pedestrian's pants as the sat and watched the C6 nearly take them out. Sometimes it's okay to showoff, but you really need to consider your surroundings before trying to slide a sticky car like the C6 Corvette. With extra wide tires, rear mounted transmission, and all the handling technology one could take it's no surprise this car dug in and launched into the crowd.

The beauty about the rear wheel drive C6 is that it can effectively put power to the ground with minimal wheel slip. Sure you can still roast the tires on the modern Corvettes, but they are nothing like they used to be. Suspension goodies include short/long arm (SLA) double wishbones, cast aluminum upper & lower control arms, transverse-mounted composite leaf springs, and monotube shock absorbers for both front and rear suspension. If that's not enough to keep you sticky, electronic traction control and active handling in control of the 19x10 rear tires should be the icing on the cake; or in this case the demise of your plan to slide. We all know how much fun it is to slide a car around when there is a crowd watching, but for the safety of others drivers really need to consider the "what if" scenarios before mashing the pedal. Car meets like this only fuel this desire to showboat, one must try their best to fight it off. Countless fail videos have been derived from the meet exodus videos as seen throughout my column. Let this be a slight word of advice to those who want to roast'em while leaving meets; think about it first before you destroy your car or take out some pedestrians!
