Busted at 144 mph - no ticket!

After a night of racing at the track, it's possible to want to keep pushing the limit. This is the main argument against "keep it on the track" from the anti-street racing groups. They believe that allowing people to build fast cars and test them on the track only leads to increased street racing and speeding. The following video of a Dodge Magnum R/T speeding at 144 mph while driving down the interstate shortly after leaving the track totally proves their point. You're probably wondering why I'm posting this, and it's for a good reason. We as performance junkies and mechanical gurus need to understand that when we leave the track, it's time to slow down.

Whether or not you've actually raced on the track, the same feeling of speed carries over even on public roadways. Say your traveling down the interstate at 70 mph for a while, and exit on to a road with a speed limit set at 35 mph. Your natural instinct is to drive at 70, so driving only 35 seems like torture. The same goes for the track, but we're talking a completely different scale. Depending on the event, you'll either want to zip through traffic from side to side or launch at every stop light. Believe me, it's contagious.

Let this be a warning! If you race on the track, get ready for the urge to speed afterward. It's natural to want to drive fast just like this guy below. After a night at the track and not meeting his goals, he appeared to be a little agitated and took out his aggression via speeding. Despite being caught at 144 mph, he did not go to jail! The officer was kind enough to drop the speeding ticket down to 90 mph, otherwise the driver would have went to jail and his vehicle towed. This guy got lucky; he didn't kill anyone nor did he go to jail. Don't just keep it on the track, leave it on the track!
