Ken Block interview from WRC Germany

In his first steps into the world of professional rallycross, the viral video champ famous for Gymkhana has made a decent impression but looks terrible on the standing boards. If you visit WRC.com and take a look at the 2010 standings, you'll find Mr. Block placed 23rd. WRC is nothing like "sliding a car on street tires" and Ken admits it in this following clip, and it surely shows in his ranking. WRC is more about reaction time than showmanship, which within given enough practice and time to learn the trait Ken should be fine. There is no room in WRC for showmanship, the circuit simply too fast. In the world of professional rallycross, the time does the talking not the smoking tires. I'm sure you all recall the famous Gymkhana video mentioned above. That was all showmanship and Hollywood camera trickery, but did you know it was recently hacked? Read about it here.

Even though he's not rocking the charts, Ken Block has done fairly well for this season considering he just changed cars. Famous for running a Subaru and now using a Ford, Ken made a big change in racing format. Switching from the Subaru flat engine to a Ford inline motor, the center of gravity is changed as well as handling characteristics. It's obvious in his early footage in the Fiesta, especially when compared to the Concord Pond run.

So is the master of viral video mayhem and cool clothing going to be able to conquer the WRC pole? I highly doubt it, but just by his presence being involved with WRC it's doing great things for rally. Never before in America has rallycross been so popular. The beauty about rallycross is that anyone with any car can compete against the clock in a fair manner. Race against yourself, race against competition, or just drive rally style to get an adrenaline buzz; it's all apart of the culture.
