Miata drifter busted by police at Mulholland

It doesn't take much to figure out that after Tanner Foust created the Mulholland drift video, there would be people on that road trying to drift. A Mazda Miata, nicely modified, was busted by California Highway Patrol just as he slides out from the corner. You can hear the tires burning as he approaches the officer, and all you can do is just wait for the lights. Next thing you know, he's pulled over and being asked "do you know why I pulled you over?" Even though this dude was breaking the law, the cop seemed pretty cool and didn't come off like Robocop. Discuss this article with CarDomain.com

Illegal street drifting, illegal racing, and other forms of illicit motorsports really aren't as bad as they seem. Of course if you get busted going 150 miles per hour through the 35 mile per hour thoroughfare you're going to jail. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a beating or two involved at those levels as well. But, for just harmless drifting like what we see here it's safe to say most cops will be "cool" about it like this guy. That doesn't mean they won't write you a ticket or take you to jail, but at least we're not talking about a whooping to make Popeye jealous.
