2010 BMW 5 Series burns to the frame!

With all the talk about fires lately, the BMW brand is also catching some heat. In Manningham Bradford, UK a 2010 5 Series was caught on cell phone camera burning to the frame. What could have caused this fire? From the looks of the video, the car was parked and not being driven. That only leaves a few scenarios possible. One, someone set it on fire. Or two, it set itself on fire. After being driven and then parked, if any leaks were occurring during the drive they may have puddled and eventually found an ignition source. When your dealing with gasoline, anything is possible. How many liquids in a vehicle are flammable? My point exactly.

Right now, there's no reason to worry about a massive BMW 5 Series  recall because this appears to be a limited instance. However, if I owned a 5 Series I'd carefully examine all fuel and oil lines, connections, etc. You can never be too safe, and when you're talking about a massive vehicle fire like what we have here the sky is the limit.

Lately, vehicle fires have been a hot subject. No pun intended, but it seems that the more you pay for a car the higher the flames. Take for example the recent Ferrari 458 Italia fire, two Lamborghini fires on I-95, the Lamborghini Gallardo fire at a Miami BP gas station, and a Ferrari Enzo being burnt to a crisp. If that's not enough catastrophe, check out the Gallardo that was shot ten times. The world isn't perfect, and if you own an exotic you're not exempt from bad luck. Bullet holes and fires are an exotic plague, get your vaccine and keep your car in the garage for the rest of 2011.
