Datsun 240z V8 vs. Yamaha R1

Proving that traction can be had with the right driver, the light bodied 240Z with a V8 swap was able to keep up with a Yamaha R1 motorcycle during a short uphill street run. The pull sounded like it was to about 100 miles per hour by the time it reaches the camera man, plenty enough to prove speed. If the Datsun can hang in with the Yamaha from a dig up to those speeds, I wonder how it could do for top speed?

Considering the history and notoriety of the Datsun 240Z, it's reputation is based on high speed agility. A complete cartoon series and movie in Japan has evolved from the 240Z named "Wangan Midnight". This awesome JDM animation eventually turned into a video gamed, surprisingly named "Midnight Club" as well. Then, the high speed Asian racing finally returned back to Japan once again, but this time as an official Jollywood production (Japan's Hollywood). The background behind the 240z is really deep into the JDM scene.

The 240Z is probably third in JDM fame next to Nissan Skyline and Toyota Supra. It's a tough call for third place, because not only the 240Z is an ideal candidate but Mitsubishi Evolution and Subaru STi present capable competition. All-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive are rarely classed together, but in top speed domination it's anybody's game. Whoever can go the fastest wins; it's quite simple really.
