Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution vs Subaru Impreza WRX STi at the beach

Looking for a fun way to enjoy the beach? Gather your AWD friends and bring the dogs, this is drifting at the beach! Keeping these vehicles on the road is blasphemy to the rally cult, but these Subaru Impreza WRX, STi's, and Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution's are living life to the fullest extent. They aren't the pampered garage queens we've grown to love. No, these are the real owners. Special thanks to "Streetfire Sam" for bringing this clip to our attention. He knows what I do with my Subaru, and this article is right up my alley; or should I say sand path? Most people will look at this clip and question why these owners are destroying their vehicles? The truth is that they really aren't doing much harm. It's what they're designed for dude!

Technically, when taking these vehicles in the sand and salt found at the beach, they're going to be okay as long as they are properly cleaned post party. Sure it's by far not the healthiest thing for your car to be splashing through salt and sloshing through sand, but in the end they'll be alright as long as you clean them immediately after getting them dirty. You can't take one off in the sand, cake layer upon layer of baked sand upon the components, and expect the vehicle to last very long. When driving vehicles like this, there is two main issues with leaving the dirt in a hard shell form around your key components; thermal and corrosion breakdown. Other than that, you're in the clear dude! But first, you should take into consideration the following if you want to do this type of driving and expect your car to last longer than a few years.

Thermal breakdown occurs when sand, mud, and other debris cake themselves onto key components of the vehicle. Any moving parts found on the vehicle use their component surface to relieve the thermal energy found within. Anytime you have moving parts, you'll have friction. That friction builds up and turns into heat, which if the part is caked in sand and mud it will not be able to escape. This causes premature wear to key components like CV joints, axles, differentials, suspension, etc.

The second form of wear is corrosion. No matter how much you clean it afterward, you are still going to have micro-sized particles stuck in the cracks, adjoinment points, and more. You simply can not get it all, but if you get most of it out that's better than nothing. Taking special care to clean the vehicle prior to play is key to a long lasting and healthy rally car. You'd be surprised how many people fail to clean their vehicles after a fun day of play! Curious about how to clean your car the right way? Click here to find out yo!
