Vintage Nissan Skyline 2000GT-R advertisement

It's always exciting to see the original propaganda used to start what most would consider a complete vehicle life style. The original JDM vehicles were considered the black sheep of their time. Competing against America's muscle scene was difficult for the efficient and unusual vehicles brought forth from Japan. These classic Japanese cars, or "Jassics" didn't become popular until later when the mass amounts of automotive culture converted into JDM. Right now, the playing field is about equal in the states that have ports but still very muscle car biased in states that are inland of the United States. For those of us who appreciate JDM, this following classic Nissan Skyline 2000GT-R commercial is bliss.
 
The Nissan Skyline 2000GT-R started production during September of 1972 and only lasted in production until March of 1973 when Nissan stopped the lines due to the oil crises of the 1970's. Nissan knew that the money was in efficiency, not power; thus the death of the 2000GT-R. Even though it only ran for half of a year, those vehicles that made it out of the production line would go on to live in infamy. This was the last GT-R to be sold up until 1989 when the R32 hit the shores of the automotive world. Only 192 KPGC110 GT-Rs were produced and sold in japan. Discuss this article with CarDomain.com

Powered by a 2.0 liter inline six cylinder engine, it was a very rev happy motor with a decent amount of power. It didn't posses the mind blowing power the GT-R name brings forth today, but with a little tuning the little inline six cylinder could become a fire breathing dragon. The Nissan S20 motor came with dual overhead cams, cross flow heads with four valves per cylinder, and hemispherical combustion chambers yielding a total of over 250 horsepower for brake trim fuel injected motors when used on larger tracks. It's versatility through tuning was the magic behind the GT-R and still is today. Way ahead of it's time, enjoy the rare glimpse into the original world of the classic Nissan Skyline 2000GT-R!
