Why do they do it? Because it's fun! If you have never been off road in a car, it is a completely different experience than going off road in a truck. Sitting down much lower to the ground, you can appreciate the obstacles and the terrain with a more personal truth. Feeling the car rip through the ground as chunks of misplaced mud scrape on the frame, now that is exciting! We can't tell by the video, but let's hope these guys are running skid plates. If not, they have some work to do when they get home!
There is something about a mud covered Subaru that is pure. The cars were built for this kind of use, and pushing the limits with them off road is extremely pleasurable. The Subaru is a total package vehicle. High speed asphalt racing, sliding gravel fun, deep snow drift blasting, and sugar sand splashing are all treats the all-wheel drive owner can enjoy. These cars are totally capable of doing all of the above plus more, I strongly urge all current owners of all-wheel drive vehicles to get out there and use them! If you don't own one, buy one. I promise you won't regret it.
