Lamborghini Gallardo vs. Bentley Flying Spur

Regardless of the large Bentley's heavy curb weight, the Flying Spur drag races the Lamborghini Gallardo very well! Holding a strong position until the top speed zone, it is quite an engineering accomplishment and statement for Bentley to be able to keep up with the Lamborghini Gallardo. With only a few more horsepower and much more weight, the Lamborghini should kill the Bentley; but it doesn't! Sure it wins by a second or so, but considering the overall size, occupant capacity, and luxury trim the Bentley Flying Spur packs a very potent punch.

2009 Bentley Continental Flying Spur specifications:
  • 6.0 liter W12 engine DOHC/ TOHC
  • 552 horsepower @ 6100 RPM
  • 479 ft. lbs. torque @ 1600 RPM
  • 5380 lb. curb weight
2009 Lamborghini Gallardo specifications:
  • 5.2 liter V10 engine DOHC
  • 553 hp @ 8000 RPM
  • 398 ft. lb. @ 6500 RPM
  • 3307 lb. curb weight

By comparing the specs above, we can clearly see that the low end torque provided by the W12 engine is what keeps the heavy Bentley in the same race as the Lamborghini. By the time the Lamborghini builds peak power, the Bentley has already generated it's maximum output specs and is pulling quite hard for the weight. On a track, we all know the Lambo will kill the Bentley. However, in a straight style drag race the Bentley can hold it's own against even the fearsome Gallardo from Italy. Watch the special race footage below taken place in Moscow and pay special attention to how the low end power of the Bentley plays a superior role in launch domination.
