Bringing this kind of power safely into the daily driver world takes skill and a carefully planned out performance agenda. ECU tuning helps but it isn't everything. Maxing out the performance and still keeping the vehicle running without nuking itself is a hard task. A lot of money and wrench time went into this Corvette to make it run 9's. To run a nine second quarter mile with stock weight, this vehicle must be pushing anywhere from 700 to 900 horsepower. Exhaust, fuel management, and forced induction is a must for this kind of power. Making use of Votex, Paxton, TTix, and FI specialists this Corvette was able to reach well into the nines and almost in the eights. What an amazing machine!
Beyond just power, it takes a good driver with the ability to properly launch the C5. These cars take more than pedal mashing, it's more of a graduated feather while feeling the power and how it reacts to the slip of the tire. There is a happy medium where you can feel the car pulling very hard just before the tires slip. If you've driven one, you understand what I'm talking about. There is an art to launching a high powered rear wheel drive vehicle! Check out this video clip of the C5 Corvette Z06 running a nine second quarter mile pass.
