Corvette Z06 vs. Porsche 997 GT2

The second video of the Oman street racing series, a Porsche 997 GT2 races against the Corvette Z06. Each vehicle is considered a top notch super car, but they both come from different classes. The Corvette has a V-8 while the Porsche has a flat six. Just like the previous Oman racing clip, the roads here are straight and open which creates an ideal street racing environment. Illegal street racing in Oman isn't as big of a problem as other parts of the world, mainly because they have less traffic during racing hours.

Watching the race, you'll see the GT2 kill the Corvette off a launch at first. The launch race is owned by the Porsche mainly because of it's overall design. Weight is appropriately placed to ensure traction, which leads to an amazing first gear pull. After the Porsche hits top speed, the Corvette's massive torque number starts to show as it pulls away. The Corvette wasn't designed for the world's fastest launch, it was designed to be a top speed legend. The second race shows the Corvette killing the Porsche at top speed, just like they are designed to do.

What can we learn from this clip? If you are going to buy a sports car, you should know yourself first. What do you want? Do you want an amazing launch, or eye bleeding top speed? If you are undecided but have enough money to suit, you should go for both. Most enthusiast love a great first gear pull, and that's where Porsche lives up to it's name. If you go with the Porsche, don't count on that top speed thrill you'll get in a Corvette. That only comes from torque!
